A Burden To Myself

Job 7:20 I have sinned; what shall I do unto thee, O thou preserver of men? why hast thou set me as a mark against thee, so that I am a burden to myself?

Unbelievers carry a crushing load. They carry themselves and they carry their sin. Before Christ washes away our sin it is so much a part of us that we cannot unload it. Our sin is what makes us unbearably burdensome to ourselves.

Colossians 3:5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

That word members could be applied to our fingers, toes, hands, arms, feet, etc. Our unforgiven sins are just as much a part of us as our arms and legs. Only God can remove sin from us. He replaces our burdensome sin with His righteousness. His righteousness keeps us from perishing in the sea of our sin and will lift us to heaven one day. God replaces the burden of sin with the buoyancy of righteousness.

Psalms 38:4 For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me.

Proverbs 13:15 Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.

Psalms 55:22 Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
